The Best Smartphone in 2016

The end of the year is near, so it’s time to draw some conclusions. What was the best smartphone in 2016?

Some of them – like the Galaxy Note 7 – have made a grand entrance, but then they have silently left the scene through the backdoor. So, let’s see which phone has lived up to our expectations.

OnePlus 3 is the Best Smartphone of the Year

You already know Note 7’s sad story, and we didn’t like what Apple did with the headphone jack. This is why OnePlus3 is the logical winner in our book. Let’s see why.

1. Price. This baby costs under $400, beating both Samsung and Apple by a large margin. Oh, and the Pixel too.

2. Looks. This baby is thin. As in 0.29 inch thin. And the bezels are quite thin. Not the thinnest in the world, I’ll give you that, but thin enough to make the phone look great.

3. Storage. OnePlus 3 comes with 64GB of storage space, which should be more than enough for most people’s needs. You can’t expand that storage by making use of a microSD card, and this is not nice. In fact, it makes me angry! But then I remember that Apple’s entry level phones come with only 16GB of storage and I calm down.

4. Screen. This phone comes with an amazing screen! Yes, I know, it’s resolution is “only” 1080p, but most of us have grown up dreaming to use a full scale 1080p monitor someday! Trust me, the screen has more pixels than you’ll need and the images look fantastic. Some people have complained about its oversaturated colors. I’m sure they were programmed this way, because they make the screen look much more vivid.

5. Computing power. OK, the Snapdragon 820 CPU isn’t the fastest in the industry, I’ll give you that. But the OxygenOS interface that was built on top of Android makes the phone feel – and act! – snappy. Have I mentioned that the phone comes with 6GB of RAM, a number that its competitors can only dream at? It’s not a surprise that OnePlus 3 is ready to chew any task you are able to throw at it.

The weaker processor won’t get the highest CPU Mark score, but it’s sure to keep the entire phone cool even when you play graphics and CPU-intensive games. Not to mention that it significantly boosts battery life.

6. Camera. OnePlus has a standard 16 megapixel camera and a big, 1/2.8-inch sensor. Bigger sensors are good, because they let more light in, and this leads to better pictures. And it shows! The phone’s HDR mode creates impressive pictures that turn even dull scenes into masterpieces.

The good old Note 7 was taking better pictures, it’s true. But now that it’s out of the market for good, OnePlus 3’s camera is a good enough replacement.

7. Battery. This phone can play a video in a loop for more than 15 hours! And yet, you’re still going to need to charge it every day. There simply isn’t a smartphone to last 2 full days at the moment. I’m talking about phones with large screens, son. The good news is that the battery can be fully charged in about an hour.
